There is talk of a possible sequel to the successful horror movie “Matriarch” and it seems that we may need to look elsewhere for our next dose of creepy British horror. Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is Matriarch about?
The film focuses on the relationship between a mother and daughter who have been estranged for 20 years. Laura, the daughter, returns to her childhood home to be with her mother, Celia. It is clear from Laura’s initial arrival that the relationship between the two women is fractured. This is presumably because of the emotional neglect that Laura suffered as a child and the resentment she still has towards the woman that she moved away from 20 years previously. ..
As Laura spends more time in the village, she begins to realize that her mother and the other villagers are under the control of a powerful force that is making them do things they never thought possible. The longer she stays, the more her family and friends become worried about her safety, and the more difficult it becomes for her to escape.

One day, she gets a call from her father, who tells her that he has to go out for a few hours and won’t be back until later. Laura is worried about what will happen when he doesn’t return, but she knows that he will be back soon. She knows that her father is going to die soon, so she is very excited for him to come home and tell her all about it. Will there be a Matriarch 2?
At present, there is no indication that a sequel to Matriarch is in the works. Given the ambiguous and abstract ending of the movie, it seems unlikely that a follow-up would be produced. This is a standalone film and does not appear to be part of a larger series. ..
After the mixed reviews for Matriarch, it seems unlikely that a sequel will be made. The poor reception of the film may also mean that a follow-up is not in the cards. ..
What could happen in Matriarch 2?
A sequel to the film is likely to focus on a new arrival at the village who is trying to overcome the mysterious force that has taken residence outside of Laura’s childhood home. ..
Alternatively, there is the possibility of a prequel story about Celia and her late husband, exploring the origins of the problems in their relationship that led to the arrival of a ‘matriarch’ who the villagers became dependent on. ..

When could Matriarch 2 be released?
If a second movie is given the green light, there is a chance that it could arrive next year, perhaps around Halloween time to scare the pants off moviegoers.
A possible sequel or prequel to the 2017 horror movie “Moloch” is unlikely, as the film has not been released in over a year. However, if fans of dark folk horror are interested in learning more about the film, then check out Moloch, Midsommar, or In the Earth.
The matriarch in the new Matriarch movie is a powerful and compelling character. She is a strong advocate for her family and their needs, and she is able to lead them through difficult times. The matriarch is a valuable role model for young women, and I enjoyed watching her story unfold.
