Leeds United are one of the most successful football clubs in the world. They have won over 100 trophies, including 11 Premier League titles and six FA Cups. The club has a rich history, dating back to 1872. Leeds United was founded as a football club by members of the Leeds Mechanics’ Institute. The club played its first match on October 14, 1872, against Rotherham United. In 1876, Leeds United became champions of England after they beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final at Anfield. In 1888, they won their second championship title after defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in the final at Elland Road. In 1902, they became champions of Europe after they defeated Spanish side Barcelona 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium. In 1906, they won their third championship title after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Goodison Park. They also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup twice during this time (1906 and 1907). In 1951, Leeds United merged with their local rivals Bradford City to form a new club called Bradford Park Avenue. The merger did not go well and Bradford Park Avenue finished bottom of the table in their first season together. The following year they were relegated to Division Two but managed to stay up thanks to some good performances in Division One. They were promoted back to Division One for the 1957–58 season but lost out on promotion again due to finishing bottom of Division One with only 38 points from 34 games played. After relegation back down to Division Two for two seasons (1959–60 and 1960–61), Leeds United finally achieved promotion back up to Division One for 1962–63 under manager Vicarage Road boss Harry Redknapp who had been appointed head coach following Redknapp’s dismissal from Tottenham Hotspur earlier that year. He led them allthe way until he was sacked midway through his fourth season with them when they finished bottom of Division One with only 36 points from 38 games played which resulted in relegation
