Fun nostalgia-driven sequel surpasses the original
Since then, Sonic has undergone a number of redesigns, with the latest being a reimagining that was announced at E3 2019. The new Sonic is more stylish and modern-looking, and it seems to be working well. So what’s the deal? Is this the new Sonic we’ve been waiting for?

Doctor Robotnik finds himself stranded on the mushroom planet, and is helped by a crazed red echidna named Knuckles. They are both desperate to find Sonic and make him pay for the slaughter of his people. This links back to the fight that gripped the start of the original movie. ..
Sonic is up against Eggman and Knuckles, who are after the Master Emerald. Tails helps Sonic to stop them, and they all end up getting the emerald. This makes them even stronger, and they have to face off against Sonic again.
The biggest problem with the first Sonic film came from the emphasis on the human characters. Specifically, Tom (James Marsden) and his partner Maddie (Tika Sumpter). This time, the pair are carted off to Hawaii for a wedding while Sonic does most of the heavy lifting. ..
The human characters in Sonic the Hedgehog are not very interesting or funny, and their story does not really add to the film. In my opinion, the only thing that this subplot does is make Sonic and his friends restless.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a great movie that is loved by fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. There are many nods to the game in it, from Sonic taking in air bubbles underwater to his trademark spin attack. This movie was clearly designed with a love for the videogames in mind.
When you compare this to the writers of the new Halo TV show, proudly proclaiming they’ve never played the games nor have any intention to (way to win over the fanbase there Paramount), Sonic 2 is a pure, nostalgic joy.
The new “Dumb and Dumber To” is pretty much the same as the original “Dumb and Dumber,” with plenty of self-referential nods to other movies and ideas, along with lots of slapstick, one big, colourful dance number, and plenty of silly quips. Oh, and of course Jim Carrey is here with all his usual typical exaggerated mannerisms. ..
The visuals are stunning and the animators deserve a lot of credit for their work. There are a lot of close-ups of Sonic and his friends, where you really see a lot of the painstaking detail put into the fur and facial expressions. That extends all the way to the credit sequence too, which has a similar pixel-art style before the post-credit sequence sets up a potential future for this Sonic franchise. I won’t spoil that here, but our accompanying ending explained will tackle that in more detail.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a sequel to the 1995 film Sonic the Hedgehog. It is a 20-minute long movie, and it is essentially more of the same but bigger, better, and with less human characters dominating the screen. However, Sonic 2 is a brilliant family flick that adults and children alike will enjoy. It’s certainly not going to win any awards, but it’s a hugely fun way to spend a couple of hours. Roll on Sonic 3!
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 ended with the character Eggman being defeated by Sonic and his friends. In the game’s ending, Eggman is revealed to have been working on a powerful weapon that he plans to use against Sonic and his friends.
