The Episode Review

Bear teaches us valuable life lessons, even when he behaves erratically. His episodes can feel preachy at times, but that’s okay - Bear is teaching us something valuable, even if it’s not always easy to hear. ..

The Bear family is a fatherless teen who relies on advice from their community leader, in addition to building the show’s theme of community through the advice-giver. It’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking to see how the reservation is constantly rallying around Bear–and he still doesn’t notice how wonderful a community he has.

This episode features a surprising form of wisdom from Daniel’s father. We don’t know much about him, but he easily fits into the role of grieving father and potential father figure for Bear. I look forward to seeing what that relationship will be like in future episodes.

Episode four will likely answer some of these questions. ..
