Commitment

Dorothy is still shaken up over Isabelle’s death and is also spooked over Leanne’s reaction. She asks how she can help, but Leanne just shrugs her shoulders.

Dorothy is standoffish with Sean and keeps blaming him for what’s happened with Leanne. He tries to make her breakfast and offers to take Jericho but Dorothy flat-out refuses, not letting Sean care for his own child.

Dorothy makes herself some cereal and the maggots happen to be crawling around in the flakes. She hastily spits it out in the sink.

“Dorothy, do you remember when we were in your room and I found the journal with a picture of you on your knees?”

Dr. Mackenzie begins by asking Dorothy and her dad if they want to see their daughter together. Dorothy is hesitant, but her dad says that it would be better if they all saw her together. Dr. Mackenzie then asks about Leanne’s back and Dorothy and her dad both agree that she has a lot of healing to do. They also want to make sure that Leanne is taken away from the home where she is being held and put into an institution where she can heal properly.

Leanne is in an interview when Julian shows up. He finds Dorothy snooping around in the girl’s room and isn’t happy about it. Julian believes this is a big mistake and thinks Leanne should be careful. ..

When it’s Dorothy’s turn to speak to Dr. Mackenzie, he listens as she talks about how Julian and Sean have both been manipulated by Leanne. He listens quietly, eventually seeing him out to the front door.

Mackenzie has decided that Jericho is not safe and because of that, Dorothy is going to be taken away.

Leanne shows up to diffuse the situation, pointing out calmly that she is what’s keeping the family together. Julian decides to help out watching Dorothy too, as the doctor prescribes some meds and agrees reluctantly to let her stay at the house for now. ..

The Episode Review

Servant is a show that is incredibly barebones in terms of story and plot. Despite this, the show manages to eke its way through a barebones script that could have easily been told across 6 episodes or less. The show’s strong focus on character development and suspense makes for an engaging experience, even if the plot is basic.

The story here centers around Leanne’s presumed manipulation and how Dorothy is growing ever-more paranoid that Leanne is worming her way into the house and causing everyone to turn on her. ..

While that may be true, this season has been plagued by episodes that have gone nowhere and offer little in the way of development. Beyond the end, there is not much to keep you interested this year. ..

We’re about to reach the end of this season and if there’s one thing Servant does well, it’s deliver a gripping finale so let’s hope this one salvages what’s otherwise been a rather disappointing and mediocre season.
