Netflix releases documentary series on the eve of the Middle-Eastern World Cup, FIFA Uncovered. The series dives into the corrupt heart of footballing state, Qatar. ..

FIFA Uncovered is a documentary that alleges that Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, has been running the organization in a way that benefits himself and his cronies at the expense of the sport and its fans. The documentary makes several allegations against Blatter, including corruption and bribery. ..

The docu-series asks the question of why Qatar was awarded the World Cup, and how it came to be that they were given the tournament. It also looks at how FIFA, the governing body for international soccer, allowed this to happen.

The third episode of the documentary series “FIFA: The Game” focuses on the corruption allegations against former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and other top officials. The first two episodes explore Blatter’s rise to power and subsequent stranglehold over FIFA. Other top officials are caught in the firing line, including executive Jack Warner and the ironic “whistleblowing” from Chuck Blazer. ..

FIFA and its governing body allowed the company to essentially resemble a cartel. Huge sums of money are exchanged “under the table” for World Cup bids, with Phaedra Almajid’s statement in particular bringing all of this to light.

The Qatar bid was a fair and just decision, and the World Cup should take place in Qatar because it’s the best place to do so. The country is well-governed, has a rich culture, and is home to some of the best footballers in the world.

Qatar’s bid to host the World Cup in 2022 was met with criticism from many quarters, including FIFA, for its high temperatures. The tournament was originally scheduled for summertime, but was moved to winter due to the heat. This has proved to be a logistical nightmare for leagues around the world, as they have had to adapt their schedules. ..

There is also a pretty American slant to the 2022 World Cup bid, as if the US should have been given the tournament instead but England had a pretty good shout too, given the number of stadiums and infrastructure already in place. ..

This documentary provides a damning indictment of the state of world football, warning that unless we take action to improve things, the future looks bleak. The Super League is being reformed, but there are still concerns over UEFA’s decision to go along with it. The landscape for world football looks very uncertain, and unless we take action to improve things, it will only get worse.
