Raised by Wolves is a sci-fi show that’s undeniably memorable despite its issues. This one is on the cusp of being one of the best sci-fi series on TV but time and again the writing lets this show down from becoming more endearing.

I don’t want to be negative, but I have to say that Raised by Wolves has its merits, boasting an unrivaled moody atmosphere, intriguing ideas and a lot of unpredictability. However, this unpredictability isn’t always a good thing. ..

Adam and Eve are still alive, but they are in a difficult situation. They have been living in a world where they are not allowed to eat from the trees, and they are also not allowed to drink from the rivers. They have to find a way to get food and water for themselves.

The family has been relocated to the Tropical Zone, ruled by an Atheistic group called The Trust. Gone are the barren, choked deserts and instead we get acid seas and plenty of crazy flora and fauna. ..

Mother quickly becomes a part of the colony, but she is conflicted about her new surroundings. She loves the company of other people, but she also feels threatened by the Serpent.

Marcus has recently acquired new mysterious powers and is determined to establish a church focused on Sol within the colony. Many colonists are disillusioned with the Trust, and Marcus sees this as an opportunity to gain followers. ..

As the baseball season progresses, the two stories inevitably intersect and interweave together. However, there is always a niggling feeling that the writers are just fumbling through the narrative to try and find a hook. ..

The novel feels like it’s constantly moving in different directions, with little payoff for the reader. There are some interesting ideas and concepts but they’re not well executed and the weirdness makes it difficult to care about the characters.

This year’s Raised by Wolves revolves around its themes of religion and motherhood. Some episodes are more obvious about this, while others explore the theme more broadly. The show balances these ideas well across the 8 episodes. ..

Raised by Wolves is an odd, atmospheric show that makes you want to tune in every week to see what happens. However, when you look back and try to work out where the story has gone and why certain elements of the world are the way they are, you realize that Raised by Wolves has hidden a lot of this from you.

This show has a lot of structural issues and the plot doesn’t always flow as well as it should. Some episodes meander on while others drip-feed answers that spiral into larger questions. But despite those problems, this is still good TV, and the sheer weirdness of it all is enough to at least give it a watch as something unique and different in the vast TV landscape. It’s not perfect but it is compelling. ..
