On the other hand, some viewers find the show to be too graphic and gory for their taste. So what does the network do? They take a middle ground and make it more family-friendly by adding in a few jokes and lighthearted moments.
The show is a weird blend of genres that is instrumental to its mediocrity.
The girl’s story is compelling, and the journalist does a great job of building suspense until the end. The writing is well-done, and I was definitely on the edge of my seat throughout the entire piece.
Suzanne allows her daughter Mae to stay with her for a while after learning Mae’s parents have not bothered to take her home. Mae is strange and does not fit in with Suzanne’s perfect family. However, it soon becomes apparent that there is something wrong with Mae. Suzanne’s perfect family starts to unravel as Mae’s strange behaviour threatens to tear them apart. However, is there something more wrong with Mae than just being a troubled young woman? ..

This show is exploring the theme of trauma, and it’s a well-done job. The characters are interesting and the story is compelling. However, it can be a bit cliched, and there’s not much that’s new or exciting about it. That said, the underlying theme of trauma is well-covered and makes for an interesting plot point.
The ending of the novel is equally appealing, but some people may find it confusing or unsatisfying.
This one’s not bad for a rainy weekend but it’s also not a particularly trying or memorable watch either. There’s definitely potential here but the story is torn between two states that really don’t blend – like slathering yoghurt on marmite. Individually they may be nice but together they’re really not! And that, sadly, sums up Devil In Ohio.
