Papa Roach’s latest album, Ego Trip, is not their finest hour. The album has a slant that was not present in their past work. This is a shame as Papa Roach has released quality music in the past. ..

Papa Roach has shifted gears with their latest release, Ego Trip. Gone are the days of Jacoby Shaddix bellowing out lyrics about smashed love and torn dreams. This album is all about self-promotion and showcasing one’s ego. There is no hook, driven riff or melodic underpinnings to get the music soaring. It’s a drastic change for the band, and it really shows. ..

It’s mind-boggling on a massive scale that the band, once known for their creative music and powerful messages, would allow their output to dwindle and become mediocre. Although, based on their two previous albums, it appears that this is indeed the case. ..

Papa Roach’s music is lifeless and uninspired. The beats are slow and plodding, and the lyrics are forgettable. The instrumentals are also forgettable, offering nothing new or daring. It’s perplexing that Papa Roach let this go out into the cut-throat world with a music industry on you like a rash, with pincers sharpened and hurtful words.

The first song on the album starts off strong, but quickly falls apart. The riff is recycled and the vocals are lost in the mix. There is no real development or excitement throughout the song.

The album is uninspiring and lacklustre, with a lack of interest in the listener. The beats are poor and the lyrics are uninspiring. The only good moment on the album is ‘Killing Time’, where there are some decent guitar moments. However, this track quickly loses its momentum and becomes uninteresting.

Papa Roach is in a funk. They may feel that their new album, Ego Trip, has the answers, but it falls flat almost immediately. This band has had times when their music seemed gracious, with a beating heart. But those days of wonder are long gone.
