The Mysterious Time Traveler

Grid, a new series premiering on Syfy this week, begins with a solar flare from the sun decimating a satellite nearby. It hurtles into another just outside Earth and prepares to crash into our planet. However, a large forcefield covering the entire globe stops that from happening. ..

This solar flare caused a big problem with communication equipment across the Earth in 2004. The orange shield known as the Grid was put in place to prevent any more explosions like this from happening.

The darkness is so complete that some people are able to see the light. Others can’t. It’s a big, dark world without any way to get around it.

The Grid is a powerful shield that was created to protect humanity from solar winds. Unfortunately, this shield is about to be overwhelmed by the storm. If the Grid can’t hold up, humanity will be destroyed. Thankfully, the Grid is still operational and can help protect us from this impending doom.

The character takes a break and reflects on how she was right. ..

On October 31st 2021, Kim Sae-Ha goes to a convenience store to get a parcel. He notices the man acting suspiciously and the package he receives with a drop of blood on it. He realizes that this could lead to something bigger, so the actual shop assistant is murdered, stabbed with a pair of scissors. ..

The CCTV footage seems to suggest that Saeha may have lip-read skills and it appears he told the murderer not to drink alcohol in the store. Among those investigating is Jung Saebyeok, the young girl we saw earlier in the episode. ..

Anyway, Saeha and I join forces as we investigate the scene together. It’s worth noting here that Saeha isn’t actually a detective but he’s just allowed to waltz in and look at the dead body all the same.

Saeha heads to a care home to take care of his mother. While there, he begins assembling his gun while listening to a news report confirming that the police are having difficulty tracking down the assailant. ..

Saeha begins searching online for information about the failed police operation from the night before.

The suspect’s name is actually Kim Manok. Saebyeok’s statement confirms they dispatched a team to track him down after finding his address. Officers managed to corner him, with Saebyeok giving chase.

Manok managed to use a rope to get to the rooftop but with the door locked and nowhere to go, he skips across the rooftops and eventually hides under a truck. Saebyeok finds him but a mysterious masked female stops her, allowing Manok to leave. When Saebyeok tries to punch her, this woman disappears right in front of her face.

Saebyeok continues to search for the assailant who left her hair in the truck Manok was hiding under. ..

The Episode Review

The show feels like it was rushed to a finish and doesn’t have the depth or ambition that it could have.

Not only do we not know much about Saebyeok and Saeha, but there is still much we don’t know about them. Saeha seems to be good at lipreading and her job involves working for the Bureau, but how or why she ended up there is still unknown. Likewise, Saebyeok is given no background beyond her on the school field, but of course, there’s still time for that to change.

I’m not sure if I like Grid or not, but I’m curious about the plot points and what the flashbacks will be.

The opening episode of Grid is not perfect, but it does provide a good introduction to the show. Hopefully things will continue on in the future.
