The Widow

In the third episode of In From The Cold, Lidia and Jenny continue their standoff. Lidia shoots some glass, but promises the next shot will be for her. ..

As they stand together, Lidia mentions music she heard while getting ready with her bridesmaids. She felt fearful, like she was drowning whilst someone stood over her. Spooked, she ended up running. Could it be that she was under some form of mind control?

Just before Jenny finds out details about Lidia’s ties to Yannick, the pair are attacked by jackals. Lidia is captured in the ensuing scenes with Jenny using a form of camouflage that allows her to turn invisible. When Chauncey and Chris catch up to her, she’s very weak from using this.

After healing, Jenny admits that her shapeshifting abilities work by collecting DNA from the person she touches. This raises big questions about the Tiago situation since he was apparently healed by Jenny. ..

Chauncey has been secretly filming Jenny with cameras installed into her eyes. ..

Chauncey learns that one of the Jackals is called Camo and has a scar on his hand. Determined to work out its origins, Chauncey meets a guy called Davi, and learns more. Davi believes this is a mark as part of a group in Madrid that’s involved in meth dealing. ..

Interestingly, it has been revealed that Chauncey is no longer working for the CIA either. So he’s working off the record right now.

Chauncey’s intel leads him and his team to discover that a company called Puoco Franco is actually a terrorist organization. If they can get behind the distributor for this company, they could well find their terrorist too.

Anya is being followed by someone and she decides not to shoot him. ..

Anya’s hesitation results in his death anyway. That strange black-cloaked character (anyone else think this may be Anya’s “deceased” dad at this point?) appears and checks his ID. It turns out he’s with SVR.

Jenny infiltrates Puoco Franco nightclub to find out more about the company’s secrets. She finds out that the club is run by a group of criminals who are using their connections to launder money. Jenny is able to get information that will help her investigate the company and its criminals.

Jenny and Chauncey have been dating for a few months now, and despite the cameras everywhere, they’ve managed to keep things secret from Felipe. He’s finally called away by an unspecified issue, so Jenny takes on the alias of Sara Fonte in order to continue their relationship.

Jenny is able to touch Felipe’s hand and she is able to morph her hand into his. After entering a secure area, she finds Lidia but is forced to hide again using camo-power when Felipe arrives.

Lidia recognizes Felipe’s nephew Ramon with him and unfortunately Felipe forces them to fight. When Lidia is declared champion, he shoots her in the head. Felipe also shoots Ramon too, believing him to be a traitor given his plans to assassinate the prime minister.

Felipe shirks the responsibility of taking care of Diego and continues on with his mission. However, Jenny’s camouflage starts to flicker as her vitals spike. ..

The Episode Review

Jenny’s artificial intelligence has continued to develop, and in this episode she finally gets her hands on a new power: the ability to camouflage herself. However, the contrived way Jenny has had to go camo-mode just to ramp up artificial tension is a bit disappointing.

The story is starting to get interesting now with the revelation that Chauncey isn’t actually on the CIA’s payroll anymore. The idea of mind control is being pedaled and the surprising revelation that Chauncey isn’t actually on the agency’s payroll anymore.

The show has been struggling a bit since its inception, but it seems the series is starting to settle down more now. I hope this continues throughout the season.
