What Is Burning?

None of these events seem to have anything to do with each other, but as the series progresses, it becomes clear that they are all connected. The woman who stabbed her friend in broad daylight is also the woman who took her child; the man who threw another off a rooftop is also the man who fought on the bus; and finally, the fight on the bus is related to a previous altercation between two groups of men.

All these incidents eventually pave the way for our current timeline to begin. Jenny joins her daughter, Rebecca, as they prepare for the upcoming figure skating competition. There’s a little bit of tension between the pair, which Jenny does her best to try and alleviate. ..

Jenny steps into the elevator and is knocked unconscious by a sleeping gas canister. ..

Jenny wakes up in a strange room full of CIA agents. They’re on the hunt for an illusive killer called “The Whisper.” This woman has killed 5 people and it seems they’ve found her. As the boss holds up a sketch, he calls her Anya Petrova.

Jenny is adamant that they’ve got the wrong woman, but as she pleads for her life, this shady man sneers and tells the officers to kill her. And just like that, Jenny goes full-on Jason Bourne. She uses her hidden fight skills to take out all the officers. ..

As she dives out the window, Anya lands on an inflatable. Yep, it turns out this was one big test to show off her skills. And now that she has, Jenny appears to be confirmed as this Anya character.

We jump back to Moscow in 1994 and Anya is at a party. She starts dancing with a guy called Lao-Tzu and his partner, Fania. As she starts dancing with him and his partner, Jenny falls asleep. Jesus, if this show has any more scene-jumping we’re going to get whiplash!

Fania, the daughter of a man named Arthur Orlov, knocks out several men who berate the pair on the subway. Fania is the target of Anya’s plan.

Anya decided to go rogue on her mission and chose not to scare Arthur. When her superiors catch wind of what she’s doing, they’re not exactly happy.

Chauncey Lew and Chris, the technical support man from the CIA, have been parked up in the hotel room opposite Becca and Jenny’s for the past few days. It turns out that they are working on some kind of project together.

Jenny and her team of detectives work tirelessly to find the gunman who killed Becca and left her in ruin. This leads them to Yannick, who may have information about the shooter. Only, he’s in prison and they need to get close to him in order to get his confession.

Chauncey wants Jenna to adopt the Whisper persona again in order to do some espionage work for them. Specifically, she’s to don her dancing shoes and find Tiago Vento, a maintenance man, who may be able to get them in.

Jenny quickly gets back into the swing of things by cutting her hair, drinking alcohol, and getting dressed. ..

Jenny knocks out Tiago and takes a reading of his eye. She then heads to a military hospital in order to find out more about Yannick’s whereabouts.

Jenny heads into the bathroom to escape and inexplicably changes into an older man. ..

The Episode Review

In “From The Cold,” the show jumps around a lot and doesn’t spend enough time developing its characters or doing espionage action. ..

The editing is a major issue here. The “whoosh” motion and blurry zoom effect make it difficult to read the text.

The cliched story and lack of genuine espionage drama makes it a tough sell and likely to cause a fair few people to tap out long before the end of the season, especially if this keeps up. ..

The cliffhanger with Jenny transforming has left many people eager to find out what happens next. However, this one needs to improve quickly so that people are more interested in the story.
