Good writing is the foundation to crafting a memorable and endearing TV show. There’s a reason why old episodes of Star Trek or Babylon 5 are so revered. There’s a reason why Buffy the Vampire Slayer is so damn good, even all these years later. And there’s a reason why Rings of Power is one of the worst written shows this year, written by two showrunners who have zero writing credentials to their name.

Joe Barton is a talented writer and has a long list of successful films. His latest project is another great effort that shows his skills. ..

The show is set in a world where the devil has taken over and people are living in fear. The Bastard Son, a young man who has been raised by the devil, must find his way back to humanity and save them from the darkness that has taken over.

Nathan is thrust into the middle of a war between the European witch community, torn between two sides - the Bloods and the Fairborns. Now, Fairborn witches suspect that Nathan is a dangerous Blood witch, given his biological father Marcus’ lineage. The reason for this fear stems from an old incident known as the Peace Massacre, where Marcus showed up and slaughtered all the fairborns in attendance. ..

Soul and Annalise quickly become good friends, and the two share a lot of laughs together. Nathan is not too sure how to take the new development, but he is happy for the two to be friends.

Gabriel and Ceelia guide Nathan in their own ways, which creates a unique dynamic for the characters. This is balanced out by Jessica and Mercury, two antagonist figures who have their own motivations for wanting to stop Nathan. Tensions between the two sides escalate across the season before eventually culminating in a blood-soaked and crazy finale.

The Bastard Son does well with its worldbuilding, keeping things suitably grounded in our world while also throwing in an abundance of magic for good measure. Some of the witches have powers ranging from ice and fire attacks through to crackles of electricity. There’s mind reading, hypnotism and even yellow powder that makes one forget everything. And that’s before even mentioning the Decimation! ..

The novel is fast-paced and full of surprises, but the lack of depth in the characters’ histories makes for a less interesting story.

Despite its flaws, the fantasy series is still a good one. Sure, some of the plot points are predictable, but this is a surprising and enjoyable series nonetheless. ..

The Bastard Son Ending Explained In the popular novel, “The Bastard Son,” the protagonist, John, has a child with a woman he met while working as a dishwasher. The child is called Samuel and the couple live together until John is killed in a car accident. Samuel then moves in with his father and mother. The ending of the novel is ambiguous. It seems that John’s death was accidental, but it is also possible that Samuel was conceived as a result of their relationship. In either case, the ending leaves open the question of whether or not Samuel will inherit John’s estate.
