A bland, uninspiring superhero snooze-fest

What we’re seeing now is a shift in the way that games are made. Superhero games used to be all about the action and spectacle, but now they can also be about story and character development. This is why games like Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy are so great, because they offer a unique experience that other genres can’t quite replicate.

Gotham Knights is a “AAA” gaming experience on PlayStation 5, but it offers nothing new and is mundane, boring, and cookie-cutter. ..

The story is mediocre at best, with unskippable dialogue and clunky traversal; exploring Gotham is a real chore due to the clunky controls; the characters are forgettable and uninteresting to use; the combat is stale and repetitive; the music is uninspiring; I could go on and on. Now, that’s not to say you won’t get some enjoyment out of this game, but this is more of a title for people to kick back and relax to while listening to a podcast than actively engaging and being fully immersed in what’s here. Because what’s here isn’t up to scratch. Not by today’s standards anyway. ..

Gotham Knights is a game that feels like it’s missing something. It’s not terrible by any means, but it doesn’t have the same level of graphical fidelity or frame-rates as games like Lego Avengers or Lego Marvel. This makes the world feel lifeless and uninteresting, which is a huge disappointment.

The story is the big drive and it’s well-told, but there are a few problems that keep it from being great. For one, the plot feels a bit too familiar by the end. Additionally, some of the characters feel a bit too one-dimensional and uninteresting. However, overall, this is an interesting tale that should be enjoyed.

After the death of Batman, the Bat family must step up and protect Gotham City. ..

In this exciting new game from developer Playrix, you’ll control four different heroes as they investigate the Court of Owls. Each hero has their own strengths and weaknesses, so you’ll have to use your creativity and strategy to take down the villains.

The four characters all have different playstyles, with Red Hood being better at hand-to-hand combat and Batgirl being quicker but less skilled with fighting. Nightwing is the best all-around character, though traversing quickly is a big downside. You’ll find a style that works for you, but be careful when traversing - it’s a major downside. ..

The game offers a few ways to move, but they all rely on you using a grapple gun to propel yourself up the side of buildings. There’s also the option to use a Glide function, but it’s not very satisfying and quickly drops you to the ground.

The fastest way to get around is to grapple gun, jump off the edge of a building, propel yourself forward by a quick jump as you land and then use the grapple gun again. However, there is a slight delay every time you use this, so expect to be suspended in the air for a little under a second before you move.

The Batcycle is a useless tool in the game. It doesn’t do anything, and collisions with other objects are incredibly easy to avoid.

The game is so unengaging that it’s difficult to feel invested in the characters or the plot. The animation is choppy and uninspiring, and the world feels flat and uninteresting.

The world of Gotham City is divided into three different islands. While you can unlock fast travel, it’s cumbersome and incredibly tedious to do so. Lucius Fox will give you instructions to scan a series of drones in the area, but you’re only able to do so when said drone is on a recharge pad. So expect to be standing around watching a drone float lazily about for several minutes or more before it drops. Don’t expect to swim either, the game restricts that from you completely, with the screen fading to black and dropping you back on land again.

So the combat is pretty much the same as in the Arkham games? Not really. There’s not much variety here, and even the Lego games have more of it. ..

There are three main attacks in the game, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. There are also ranged attacks that can be used either with or without a melee weapon. The Special attack can only be unlocked through specific tasks, including killing X number of enemies.

Gotham Knights is a new action-RPG game that borrows from the popular Diablo and World of Warcraft genres. The game features a levelling up system where each level grants players an ability point which can be used to improve character stats, such as attack power, combos, and damage multipliers. There is also a mod chip system in the game which allows players to customize their characters with bonuses dropped by enemies. ..

The game also includes a litany of challenges to complete, but they are largely uninspiring.

The side quests in this game are unenlightening and tedious. Each Case allows you to get closer to one of Batman’s illustrious catalogue of enemies, but require you to complete a series of missions including (yep, you guessed it!) defeating X number of enemies or stopping X number of crimes.

The story is interesting and the game is not a massive Ubisoft open world extravaganza like Valhalla. Expect to spend about 8 hours or so with the main story and another 20 mopping up collectibles and achievements, if that’s your thing. It’s an easy experience to dip in and out of, but like I said before, this is one of those games you need to temper your expectations for. ..

The game is a great action-RPG that’s been completely rewritten for the new console, but it falls short in almost every way. The combat is clunky and unresponsive, the story is forgettable and unenlightening, and the overall experience is frustrating and unsatisfying.

The game has few redeeming features and the fact that the DLC includes bringing Batman back as a playable character, despite the game LITERALLY being about how Gotham survives without him, is a deliciously amusing bit of irony to finish off what’s otherwise a generic open world bore-fest. ..
