Randall and Rachel’s wedding is interrupted when an avalanche triggers, getting dangerously close to Sonic and Tails. Thankfully, the pair manage to quite literally crash Randall and Rachel’s wedding in Hawaii as Tom uses the ring to transport them there.

Our protagonists are unfortunately captured, leaving it up to Maddie and Rachel to save the day and free them from their predicament. As Robotnik and Knuckles approach the Master Emerald, they notice that the island is levitating. They use the compass to find out where it’s going, and soon they’re on the way to the Emerald. This is a strange temple that floats out of the ocean, so it must be important.
In a large, dark chamber, Knuckles and Robotnik are fighting for the emerald. Sonic comes up behind them and starts to fight them off. The emerald is at the center of this maze-like room, but it’s not easy to get to it.
Robotnik treacherously betrays Knuckles, using the Emerald’s Chaos power for himself. The temple begins to crumble and fill with water, leaving Sonic and Knuckles to their doom.
In doing so, Robotnik returns to Agent Stone and together, they create a massive Egg Smasher robot that is ready to help him take over the world.

Back in the sunken temple, Knuckles finds himself pinned under a large stone pillar. As water fills the chamber, he looks close to passing out. After some lovely nods to the Sonic games, Sonic heads underwater and helps Knuckles lift the pillar off him. ..
Sonic swims away but with his spin powers underwater or jump that high he looks close to passing out. Thankfully, Knuckles comes back and exchanges the favour, saving the blue hedgehog from his watery fate. ..
Sonic and Knuckles share a mutual understanding that their history is actually quite similar, and they’ve both been through a lot. Seeing Sonic’s carefree attitude and his teaming up with him to tackle Robotnik are enough for Knuckles to change his tone and team up with him.

The commander is surprised to hear this and asks the agent what it is. The agent reveals that he found a document that reveals a secret project that was conducted by Robotnik 50 years ago. The project was called “Project Shadow” and it involved creating robots that could act as spies and assassins. The agent believes that this project may have been the cause of the robot uprising that occurred 50 years ago.
As we enter the lair, we see a black-and-red hedgehog in stasis at a facility.
